Mr. Evans Muhanga is currently the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Tourism since 3rd December, 2021. Mr. Muhanga is a proven business leader at the Senior Corporate level in Commercial roles in local and International blue chip Companies. He holds the following qualifications: - Masters of Business Administration, Professional Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing, Bachelor of Science Degree in Production Management, among others. He was President of Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM) and board Member of several organizations including the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA), the Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA), the Zambia Health Education Communications Trust (ZHECT), Zamtel Mobile Money Ltd, Brandwise Company Ltd, StimuliPR Company Ltd, the Bread of Life Church Health Services Board and was Council Member of Blue University of Bread of Life Church International. Additionally, he was Committee Member - Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Corporate Affairs Committee of the Board Commissioners. Mr. Muhanga has more than 15 years of working experience spanning the Telecoms Industry, Country Tourism Destination Marketing, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, the Broadcasting Industry, and Education Sectors. Mr. Muhanga has vast experience and proven results to have grown companies in terms of customer numbers and turnover by turning around non-performing commercial entities into growth-oriented companies and creating shareholder value. Examples of these achievements can be traced to Telecoms companies where he managed budgets above $10 million and achieved an annual turnover of $300million for Celtel/Zain now Airtel. During his tenure at Zamtel as Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Sales Officer he managed to re-energize the team and rejuvenated the company to reach an all-time high of customer acquisition numbers of 8,000 to 10,000 per day, reduced customer churn rate to less than 7% and attained 2 million customer mark within 3 years from a lower customer base of less than a million customers. While at Zamtel, he crafted the turn-around strategy dubbed “Crossing the Chasm” and implemented it successfully and improved monthly sales revenues from as low as K35 million a month to K68million average monthly revenues. Mr. Muhanga championed a lot of Rebranding projects from Celtel blue to Celtel red to Zain and Airtel in terms of implementation and ensuring that the Corporate brand health index continues on a growth trajectory and customer stickiness improves. In Telecoms he managed to launch the mobile network in 72 Districts of Zambia then at Celtel Zambia now Airtel to improve network access and commercially expanded the use of ICTs by also launching fiber networks, wireless 4G modems or routers during his tenure at Zamtel. All these roles made him work closely with industry players like Huawei, Ericson, ZTE, and many other suppliers dealing in sea cables from the west and east coast who commercially provided internet bandwidth to operators to improve access and connectivity. Monetization and co-location commercial team involvement in negotiations on ZICTA towers for mobile telephony connectivity and amongst industry players like IHS before the advent of INFRATEL towers. He guided the whole rebranding process of Zambia as a tourism destination of choice and launched the “Zambia Let’s Explore” Country Destination Brand in International Tourist source markets and revamped Domestic Tourism marketing at Zambia Tourism Agency. While at ZNBC as Director of Marketing and Sales, he led the creation and crafted a 3 year turn-around strategy to commercialize the institution by market-sizing the advertising industry and improving the sales revenues collection efforts.
