MINISTRY OF TOURISM SUCCESSFULLY HOSTS (LICAF) 2025

Livingstone, Zambia-17 May 2025

The Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the Southern Province Administration and local stakeholders across the country, is delighted at the successful hosting of the 2025 Livingstone International Culture and Arts Festival (LICAF). The event, held in the vibrant tourism capital of Zambia Livingstone, brought together thousands of local and international participants in a grand celebration of Zambia’s rich cultural diversity under the theme: “Tourism for Tomorrow: Promoting Sustainable Cultural Development.”
The festival featured captivating traditional performances, exhibitions of authentic Zambian handicrafts and culinary showcases from across the nation and beyond. It also served as a dynamic platform for dialogue on cultural preservation, sustainability and international cooperation.
Speaking during the official closing ceremony, Southern Province Minister, Honourable Credo Nanjuwa, lauded the event’s impact.
“LICAF 2025 has once again demonstrated the power of culture in uniting people, driving economic growth and preserving our heritage. The participation we have witnessed both from our local communities and international guests reinforces Livingstone’s position as a cultural hub and beacon of sustainable tourism.”
The festival’s success was further echoed by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Evans Muhanga, who highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability in cultural tourism:
Mr. Muhanga also emphasized the Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure to improve performances and attract more stakeholders and for the event to be recognized at international level.
This year’s LICAF saw increased youth participation through workshops on intergenerational knowledge transfer, with elder practitioners mentoring young artists in traditional dance, craft-making and storytelling. Regional cooperation was also a key highlight, with cultural troupes and dignitaries from neighboring countries joining to celebrate shared heritage and strengthen diplomatic ties.
The Ministry of Tourism expresses sincere appreciation to all sponsors, cultural groups, exhibitors, the organizing committee and the people of Livingstone for their unwavering support and hospitality.
As Zambia continues to position itself as a destination for both natural and cultural tourism, LICAF stands as a shining example of how festivals can promote sustainability, create economic opportunities and inspire national pride.
